Five great ideas to dress up your Mexican embroidered dress:

1.- You can add a vintage leather belt at your high waist, a wood beads bracelet and a circle hippie necklace to give your dress a bohemian flare, you can go to the movies, or a casual dinner with your friends.

2.- The beautiful Mexican off white dress, you can go anywhere with this dress, it an be wear in a hippie style wedding, one with colorful table cloths, papel picado all over the place, beautiful and traditional Mexican Folk details all around, the bride would be a hippie happy girl, no worries about itching or riping the wedding dress, you just need to add some gold details, or maybe a beautiful turquoise or jade handmade necklace, flower details "ala Frida style" in your hair, and I a I sure you will have the most amazing day of your life!

Also it can be as beautiful if wore by the friends of the bride, imagine 3 or 5 beautiful bridesmaid, with the same little white dress but all will add their own style, would love to see pictures of this with the white dresses or white beige or even pink!
And of course for little flower girls in silk or cotton, and handmade floral embroidery, would be a great addition to a Mexican wedding themed fiesta.

3.- Mmm the black embroidered dress, is fancy and hippie at the same time, I would love to wear it with a turban in my hair for that magical and whimsical look, add a long skirt to complement an elegant look, would look amazing on a late party with high heels and a Huichol bracelet with shiny peyote beads.

New Year thoughts...

This 2009 brought a lot of changes to my life, and I embrace and appreciate every single one, thank you for being part of this,
at the beginning changes are a little harsh, I can bet to everybody, but when time passes we see the Universe is perfect and God is good to us, he want us to met our higher self and to commit to be our best always.

I said good bye to a lot of baggage I was carrying, I learned I can not worry about things or situations with people that happened years ago, because this was keeping me for living fully in this day.
I understood I did the best I could, and every time I had to give my heart without fear to be hurt.
God knows his mysterious ways...

In my life I learned not to care about what other people says about me, but I cared about everyone that have touched me.

I learned my community is not only the people who is close to me and choose to be part of it, my community is all the people that has touched and will be in my life for a reason or a season, because at the end we all will met again.

And I wish always to tell you my happy stories instead of the sad ones, but sometimes you have to express what you feel and share this with someone who will understand you and help you get out of that mud, not with someone who will put you even deeper in that mud.

I also understood sometimes you have to say the things that hurt you, in order to let them go,
I use to say this were my things and nobody else needed to deal with them, but "the stars and the universe" had another plan for me, and now I can see my life in a different way, I have always saw the happy part of it and forgive and forget, but I didn't knew where to put all the "acts or words" that have done some harm to my person and heart, and now I can tell you I see this from the happy side but I do not try to understand the people who did it, I believe they where all Gurus in my life.

I learned I am strong, and I am able to give everything to a loved one, and receive, maybe not the same, but receive it with joy.
I understood I have to let go, as a slow breath, not throw away.

I learned we are all a mirrors of everybody, we see in all people ourselves, but there is a tiny line, that can confuse us with them, and we have to be aware of this.

They show me how to defend myself and how to speak for myself and say no, and tell someone when he or she is hurting me, and not to swallow this until I can not stand it anymore.

I believe we are all here for a reason and we touch our lives for ever,
We are part of everybody and every little thing.

This are just some new year thoughts, for you, for me, and for life...

They may even bring up unresolved issues so that we may complete them, giving us the chance to move forward on our life path. They may never know what they bring into our lives, but the renewed contact is a gift.

Huichol Symbols

In the Huichol culture, there can be no art without religion or religion without art. Religion is not a part of life. It is life. The gods are everywhere including the trees, hills and lakes. Even the lowly stone has a soul. These intensely religious people immerse themselves throughout their lives in this awareness through ritual and the execution of sacred symbols.

Art is the people's means of direct communication with the deities. It is meant to ensure prosperity, health and fertility, and bountiful crops. Its application promotes the general welfare of the community and is always functional as well as beautiful.

"Jicuri", the peyote plant is prominent in Huichol art. It is the plant of life that promotes harmonious relations with the gods. Sometime it's represented as the original ear of corn because both carry the colors of white, yellowish green, red and blue. Sometimes it's represented as antlers, which is a symbol of the first jicuri. All three representations hold the same meaning in Huichol myth and are interchangeable in symbolic meaning.

Another prominent symbol in Huichol art is the serpent. Because it protects corn and peyote, it is one of the most powerful animals in the Huichol cosmogony. Four female deities are represented by the serpent: Rapabiyema, the blue serpent, who lives in the south. Kapuri, the white serpent, who lives in the north. Sakaymura, the black serpent, who lives in the west. And Vaaliwa'me, the earth mother and red serpent, who lives in the east.

Takutzi Nakahue, mother of all gods and of corn, with her symbols of the sacred tree, the armadillo, the bear, the water serpent and rain is also well represented. As is Tamat's Kauyumari, the older brother who shaped the world. He can appear in the guises of deer, coyote, pine tree, or whirlwind.

Tatewari is the spirit of fire, who lives on earth and is the god of life and health. He is often represented by a reddish-brown color. Tatewari is the chief ally of shamans and accompanies the pilgrims on their journey to Wirikuta.

All of these symbols and many more are produced in the highly decorative art form of which the Huichol are masters. Every item, from carved musical instruments to masks and votive gourds, carries heavily symbolic, esoteric, and beautifully rendered symbols.

Honest Wisdom

There is wisdom in not knowing, and it is a wise person who can say, "I don't know." For no one knows everything. There are many types of wisdom - from intellectual to emotional to physical intelligence. Yet, even deemed experts in their fields do not know all there is to know about mathematics, yoga, literature, psychology, or art. It is a true master who professes ignorance, for only an empty vessel can be filled.

There are many things in life that we don't know, and there are many things we may have no interest in finding out. There is freedom in saying "I don’t know." When we admit that we don't know something, we can then open ourselves up to the opportunity to learn. And there is power in that. We can’t possibly know everything. And when we think we do, we limit ourselves from growing and learning more than what we already do know. A person who can admit to not knowing tends to be more intellectually and emotionally confident than someone who pretends to know everything. They also tend to be more comfortable with who they are and don’t feel the need to bluff or cover up any perceived ignorance. People can actually end up appearing more foolish when they act as if they know something that they don't.

We would be wise to respect people who freely admit when they don't know something. They are being honest, with us and with themselves. And we, too, should feel no shame in saying, "I don't know." In doing so, we open ourselves up to the unknown. We can then discover what lies beyond our current levels of understanding. It is the wise person in life that answers questions with a question and inspires the pursuit of internal answers with a funny face, a shrug, and a comical, "I don't know.

Our lives can be compared to an ongoing movie script over which we have complete creative control. Within us lies the power to examine what works or isn’t working in our lives and make “edits” to our life’s script, accordingly. Choosing to actively edit your life can be incredibly empowering. As you evolve, you have the choice to accept the script you’ve written thus far or edit it so you can create a life that fulfills you. You can cut out from your life’s script what is no longer working for you. Acknowledging that you are responsible for the experience you create gives you the ability to create the life you’ve always longed for.

Granted, editing your real life isn’t always as easy as erasing a line of text. If you’ve carried emotional baggage or held on to an unhealthy relationship for a long time, these may be difficult to edit out. But when you do cut out what isn’t working from your life, you’ll feel lighter and more alive. Editing out activities that you find stressful, disassociating yourself from people that drain your energy, and letting go of your emotional baggage are all beneficial cuts you can make. In the empty spaces that are left behind, you can add in anything you like. Just as you have the power to edit out negative situations or beliefs that you no longer wish to have as part of your life, you can now include the kinds of positive experiences, people, and beliefs that you would like to fill your life with. The manifestation of these thoughts and images as realities in your life will inevitably follow. As you make changes to your life, you can also add in the bits where you choose mo! re intimate, healthier relationships, seek out adventure over tedium, and are no longer negatively impacted by old experiences.

To begin editing your life, simply think about your positive and negative experiences. When you determine what parts of your life are no longer serving you, make the commitment to remove them – though, it is important to remember that there is no proper timing or way to do this, and patience and compassion for yourself are always important during this process. Then, ask yourself what has brought you profound bliss and consider how you can make those experiences and beliefs part of your life now. With a little editing, you’ll be able to clear out what is no longer serving you and make room in your life for more happiness, love, and wisdom.

Being Projected Upon

We all have issues, as well as undesirable qualities or traits that we don’t like about ourselves. Most of us realize that we are not perfect and that it is natural to have unpleasant thoughts, motivations, desires, or feelings. However, when a person does not acknowledge these, they may ascribe those characteristics to someone else, deeming other people instead as angry, jealous, or insecure. In psychological terms, such blaming and fault finding is called projection. When we are the target of projections, it can be confusing and frustrating, not to mention maddening, particularly when we know that we are not the cause of another person’s distress.

Even people who are well aware of their issues may find that sensitive subjects can bring up unexpected projections. They may feel insecure about a lack of funds and thus view a friend as extravagant. Or, if they really want to get in shape, they may preach the benefits of exercise to anyone and everyone. While we can try to avoid people we know who engage in projecting their “stuff” onto others, we can’t always steer clear of such encounters. We can, however, deflect some projections through mindfulness and meditation. A useful visualization tool is to imagine wrapping ourselves in a protective light everyday. At other times, we may have to put up a protective shield when we feel a projection coming our way, reminding ourselves that someone else’s issues are not ours.

Although it’s difficult not to react when we are the recipient of a projection, it is a good idea to try to remain calm and let the other person know if they are being unreasonable and disrespectful. We all know that it’s not fun to be dumped on. Likewise, we should be mindful that we don’t take our own frustrations out on others. When we take ownership of our thoughts, motivations, desires, and feelings, we are less likely to project our issues or disowned qualities onto others.

Lessons of Discovery

Depending on what stage we are in our lives, we can sometimes feel like we ought to know more about who we are or how to live. We may even berate ourselves for making the same mistakes, or for just not "getting it," whatever "it" may be. We wonder how our lives would be now, if only we had “known better.” During moments like these, it is important to remember that none of us are born with instruction manuals and that learning lessons is a lifelong journey.

Inherent to our being born is that we are here to observe, learn, and grow. Accompanying this is a built-in guarantee that there will be mistakes and misadventures along the way. And while it is only natural that we may sometimes become overwhelmed, especially when the lessons keep coming, it is important to remember that learning to understand yourself and your world is an ongoing and active process where the journey is more important than the destination. Every lesson is intended so you can become more of who you are. And as you grow through this self-discovery, you begin to create your own instruction manual. The "how’s" and "why’s" are yours to discover, and part of the beauty of being alive is that these rules are always changing.

If you feel that you would like to explore what your personal instruction manual may already say, then try writing down in order some of the significant events that have happened to you. It’s also important to take note of what you learned from each one. When you are done, you may be surprised to discover how much you are always growing, and that every lesson learned always informs the next. That being said, there is never any need to be hard on yourself or think that you should have it all figured out. We always know as much as we’re meant to know at that moment, and growing into our fullness is a process that unfolds in divine timing. You and your life are beautiful works in progress. Discover yourself and embrace your life’s lessons, and your instruction manual will create itself.

Taking Things Personally

Every time you interact with others, you have the choice to listen to, acknowledge, and let go of their words, or you can take what they are saying personally. Taking things personally is often the result of perceiving a person’s actions or words as an affront or slight. In order to take something personally, you must read negative intent in an individual’s words or actions. But what people do and say has no bearing upon you and is usually based on their own experiences, emotions, and perceptions. If you attempt to take what they do or say personally, you may end up feeling hurt without reason.

If you are tempted to take a comment or action personally, creating some distance between yourself and the other person can help you. Try to determine what is at the root of your feelings. Ask yourself if the other person’s words or actions are just reinforcing some insecurity within you or if you can really be sure that an offense was intended. You may even want to ask them what they meant. Finally, put yourself in the other person’s shoes. Instead of taking their words as the truth, or as a personal affront, remember that whatever was said or done is based on their opinion and is more reflective of what is going on inside of them, rather than having anything to do with you. You may have been an easy target for someone having a bad day, and their comments may have been offered with no ill intentions.

When you recognize that what anyone says or does doesn’t necessarily have anything to do with you, you will no longer feel hurt or attacked. While it’s easy to take things personally, you should never let anyone’s perceptions or actions affect how you see yourself or your worth. Your life is personal to you, and it is up to you to influence your own value and sense of well-being.

We can also discover our intrinsic value, separate from what someone else might be reflecting back to us. Getting to know who we are and learning to love ourselves creates a solid foundation of self that we can bring to any relationship.

We are fortunate to live in a time when relationships can unfold at a pace that is right for us and take unique forms. Friendship, dating, open relationships, long term relationships, long distance relationships, or committed relationships — we are free to choose the kind of relationships that we want. If you want to be in relationship, but haven’t found the right one for you, remember that the universe works in perfect order and, therefore, right now your life is unfolding exactly as it is meant to be. Maybe all this time has been part of your preparation period for meeting your intended partner. Even the relationships in our lives that haven’t worked out as we had hoped serve us by teaching us to make better choices in our next relationships.

Finding the relationship we want can come early or later in life. It may even happen again and again in one lifetime. There is no right or wrong for how to find a relationship nor is there a timeline that you have to follow. Follow your heart, listen to your inner voice, continue to become your own soul mate, and stay open to love. The journey of finding the right relationship begins with being in right relationship with yourself.

Maya Clothes and Myths

In ancient times the Maya believed that clothing could Transform a person and a person could transform the garment and is Expressed through It.

Naturally clothing was of great cultural significance. They would often make textiles to enhance religious power; the most common way of doing this was dressing for the maize gods.

Women and men would wear a net overskirt made of jade, the color of life, which represented their high place in society. In order to dress as a maize deity and manipulate the regeneration of the maize plant they would weave serpents onto huipils to symbolize lightning.
The lightning god is the god believed to have created maize on the top of Mt. Sustenance.

Mayan elite would also wear a shark shell belt and a jade-netted collar to the maize deity costume. How to Celebrate, the "Day of the death" o "El dia de los muertos"

We started today our celebrations for honoring the day of the death, today November 1st it is said is the "Angelitos day" or "El dia de todos los Santos", Granmothers say it is a special day to remember our loved little children that wanted to return to the "Cielo" (sky) before us, and tomorrow we will celebrate, "the day of the death", where we remember all our loved ones that departed already.

This two days are very special for us, and even we celebrate them with Joy and Hapinnes there is also that feeling when you start remembering all your loved ones, that already passed away, this is the reason that you would see people crying and laughing when celebrating this beautiful days.

We will do an "ALTAR" in the cementery or in our own house, we will add a beautiful picture of our loved ones, cempasúchitl flowes, we offer some salt and water, for the spirit fo purification, favorite food of our loved ones, maybe they liked to drink a special beverage or even smoke a cigarrete and of course the favorite candies and desserts and we decorate with "papel picado".

It is s special day, to celebrate and share it with our loved ones, to celebrate death and our own rebirth, to create an union with our departed souls and to show them our respect and love.

We believe, during the Day of the Dead, it is easier for the souls of the departed to visit the living.

Families will go to cemeteries to communicate with the souls of the departed, and will build private altars, containing the favorite foods and beverages, and photos and memorabilia, of the departed.
The intent is to invite and encourage visits by the souls, so that the souls will hear the prayers and the comments of the living directed to them. The celebrations can be humurous too, as celebrants remember funny events and anecdotes about the departed!

This day November 2nd 2008, would be my first "day of the death" honoring my Dad Jorge, Rest in peace Papá, we was the most wonderful Dad for us, He loved us so much, and he always wanted the good for his family and for everybody, and stayed in the "Good side", even when people was not really nice with him and He always kept the inner peace and continue this way for ever in his life, I learned this and a lot of other "not school" lessons, we miss him a lot... hopefully this day he will leave his restful space and visit us in this funny world today and join us in the party!. =)

I feel his protection and sometimes I hear him in my dreams, giving me advice, I know he is with us always and one day we would be together again.

Well, now we are off to the market, I need fresh flowers, papel picado, inciense, good food, dessert, cigarretes, and candy for my Papá´s first Altar.

And this night we will get together to celebrate this day and to share with our beloved ones that already left us, what we have become and ask them force, strenght and wisdom to continue with out them.
